2002 marked the Squadrons 60th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion a 60th anniversary mural was painted by members of the unit, which remains on the wall today. Cadets were also provided flights in the Squadron’s old Tiger Moth, ZK-BSN and a special parade was held at the end of the year.
SQNLDR Peter Carter became the Unit Commander in 2006.
In 2006 the Squardon accepted an invitation from RNZAF Base Woodbourne to move into new headquaters and the move was completed in 2007. The buildings provided are located on the Southern face of the airfield and were originally part of Longbank, a US installation at the Base.
This move paved a significant milestone in the Unit’s history as the aging facilities in Omaka were becoming a liability due to maintenance demands. This huge reduction in overhead allows the Unit to provide more training and opportunities to cadets as a result.
It also marked the first time in its history the Squadron became permanently based on an active RNZAF base. Being direct on the airfield, the Squadron is now able to operate flying camps directly from the Unit Headquarters.
In 2008 SQNLDR Kim Willemse took over as the Unit Commander.
PLTOFF Wayne Pelvin took over as Unit Commander in 2010.
